On display is a Henry & Jouvelet pump, as presented in February 1934 in the Académie de Médecine and as it was used in the state clinics (Ministry of War, Navy, Colonies and Assistance Pulique). "Fabriqué par les Ets Gazel à Noisy le Grand, distribué par les Ets D.Simal et At.Lebros, rue des Ecoles à Paris Vème".

Blood is a very special juice "- Mephisto already knew ...

The history of blood pumps began with the development of a roller pump for blood transfusions by ALLEN. It was further developed by Truax into the first double roller pump. After another modification by DeBAKEY his name is still connected to the roller pump today. In the first experimental perfusion systems, a variety of pumping systems such as diaphragm, hose, finger and roller pumps were used. Compared to the pulsatile pumping systems, nonpulsatile roller and centrifugal pumps were able to prevail in today's heart-lung machines.

A device from the Swiss company "Transfusex" ispresented, a simple rotary pump with clockwork for reading the transfused blood volume (Clinique Ste Elisabeth / Luxembourg).

Gerät n. BRAUN-TZANCK

When blood transfusion was first performed by ordinary syringes, many transfusion apparatus developed later. They were usually based on the multi-tap principle, so the apparatus n. OEHLICKER.

Before starting the transfusion, the whole system had to be filled with saline and rinsed with saline between two blood fillings. Otherwise, it would inevitably lead to the formation of coagulates in the system. For this reason, this method was later expanded to include the option of flushing the system without dispensing the syringe using a three-way stopcock (Rotanda Syringe, Assa Syringe, BRAUN-TZANCK, and ROTH).

The technique of TZANCK proved itself in the assassination attempt on the French President on May 6, 1932. Here, a Luxembourger was given a noble task:
"The persons who gave their blood for the President are: Melle KRIEDEL, nurse in the service of Dr. Ing. TZANCK and the head waiter Robatel, rue de Lisbonne, who is registered as a blood carrier on the lists for urgent blood transfusion "(Echternacher Anzeiger, 11.5.1932).
"To the death of Paul Doumer Miss Jeanny Kridel, born January 28, 1908 in Dudelange, daughter of Mr. Johann Peter Kridel, metallurgist, Schifflingen, has, together with Mr. Robatel, Maitre d'Hôtel, Paris, their blood to save the President Miss Jeanny Kridel is a native of Luxembourg, the same is the Infirmiere of Dr. Tzanck in Paris, who carried out the first operation, After the transfer of blood by Miss Kridel, Mr. Doumer spoke again "(Escher Tageblatt, 12.5.1932).
Doumer did not survive the shots of the Russian doctor (!) Paul Gorguloff (1895-1932), despite the noble blood donation ...

ASSA-Pump

Following a similar principle as the ROTANDA syringe, the glass pump "ASSA" from VEB Glaswerke Schmiedefeld worked on the Rennsteig.

The accompanying prospectus specifies:
"Use for Blood transfusions from vein to vein Infusion and puncture of fluids in body cavities (pleuritis exsudativa) Irrigation of serous - bloody - purulent joint effusions ".

Import from Östrich-Winkel in Hessen.
The place of manufacture Schmiedefeld is a beautiful holiday resort in the Thuringian Forest. The glass factory, a state-owned enterprise of the former German Democratic Republic, was settled with the "turnaround", i. privatized and swallowed by a company based in Bad Homburg.

Transfusion device (6) from JUBÉ

In 1924, Louis JUBÉ (born August 14, 1899 in Saint Pol de Léon in Brittany) published his pump for non-citrated blood (US Patent 1,499,662 of July 1, 1924) - in principle, it was from the beginning to unfashionable since she took no notice of the sodium citrate admixture invented in 1914 by Albert Hustin. Thus, it was replaced in the 1930s by the 3-way citrated blood pumps.

The pump was manufactured by Duffaud & Cie from Paris, 11 rue Dupuytren, founded in 1889. Note that the Duffaud needles (IS 15/10 and IS 17/10) are different! The rubber hoses are hard and brittle due to age. Despite the lack of citrate admixture, it was the most commonly used transfusion system in Europe in the 1920s; through the tubes wetted with paraffin oil 5 ml of blood could be transferred every 3-4 seconds. 500 ml were so easily transferred, then the blood coagulated mostly, and the procedure had to start again.

In 1938, Jubé pumped with all his might to save the life of the German diplomat Baron Ernst vom Rath, who had been shot in Paris by the Jew Herschel Feivel Grynszpan. At the operating table stood the notorious surgeon Karl BRANDT, who had come from Berlin.
